HEALTH AND TEMPERAMENT ARE MOST IMPORTANT

Sire Rufus and Dam Emma of the litter born June 2, 2010

With our Emma as the Dam of two fine litters we thought it was important that a few points were made. It IS NOT our intention to breed dogs for AKC confirmation competition. Our goal is to breed dogs with great temperament, and genetically strong. Thus we want to place a pup in a home to be a best buddy in a family. Standard Poodles with their easy-going disposition, and high intelligence are ideal for this.

Now if one of our dogs does have potential in the show ring, so be it! And, a couple of pups in the first litter did have that potential. As likely will a couple of pups in the second litter. If you happen to get one of those, and wish to show him, we wish you all the luck in the world. For most folks who want a casual pet, however, we recommend spay/neuter for your pet. Pet over-population is a problem.

Titan from Emma's 1st litter

One of our potential buyers asked about therapy dogs. We know that a friendly dog can brighten a mood. A dog who is gentle, open to all kinds of people, offering a cold nose and a lick from a wet tongue. In our past litter, we had a couple of pups who fit this laid-back calm demeanor, most particularly, TITAN. A case in point about TITAN is that while he was in the house, the vaccuum cleaner was brought out. When it was turned on, not only did he NOT run away, BUT he went OVER TO the vaccuum and sniffed it (while it was running) then, stood back and watched it as it was pulled back and forth over the carpet. Noises did not phase him, but he was curious about them. He now lives in Bakersfield, at age 1, he is a happy fellow, as he has a poodle buddy in the house where he lives.

Eric and Rufus

Here in the U.S. there is a tendency to love the mutt. That is OK, but, unfortunately the classical purebreds end up at the back of the line. We believe that a well raised purebred with elegance, calm temperament, and high intellegence is the best pet for a family. Standard poodles fit that bill quite nicely. In these difficult economic times, we understand there is concern about the cost of a puppy, and our pups are reasonably priced. We do this so that poodles will find a good family home.
Those who believe that Standard Poodles are only for the show ring, and only go around with unusual grooming cuts are mistaken. If that is your wish, that is fine, but a simple grooming like you see Emma and Rufus have, more often than not on these pages, called the Lamb cut, is quite nice too... Practical and popular. There are also photo examples of the show cuts be modeled by our two superdogs.

You will see how family oriented the dogs are and you will not be disappointed. Not only are they companions, but they are excellent watchdogs who will make a fuss if they think something is amiss.

OUR BREEDING GOAL: GOOD TEMPERMENT and GENETICALLY STRONG for THE BEST POODLE PET.

From an expert on choosing a pup:
You typically want to steer away from the shy, frightened puppy who doesn't seem to have a grasp on what life has to offer. And, often it is the most inquisitive and outgoing puppy that attracts attention. That's probably the puppy to choose if your living situation is such that you want an up front, well-adjusted dog that can walk into a wide range of situations and deal with them in a straight forward manner. If you are an older person- or you have a shy, quiet child in the family - the up-front dog may not be the choice for you. Often after the most inquisitive puppies have stepped forward and demanded their attention, you will notice a quiet, more studious type of puppy who is not shy or fearful, but is just thinking through the new situation you represent. After the up-front group has had attention the more studious puppy will come forward. Watch the play pattern. This pup is often far less demanding and rambunctious than its littermates and can be quite suited to people who are older and more quiet.
