WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME FOR THE PUP TO GO TO A PERMANENT HOME?

EIGHT WEEKS

pic of pups In our practice we have had a couple of cases when the new owners come to choose the pup they will start invent all kind of reasons not to take it immediately home but want us keep the pup for a couple more weeks. Their motivation was that it was going to be easier on both sides to get him at 10 weeks instead of eight.

pups2 We immediately ask ourselves, "WHY?". And we come to the conclusion, that through some sources, they have read that if the pup stays more longer with his mother he/she can still be breast fed and so be more happier. Another myth we've heard that mom will teach the pups how strong to bite or not to bite strong.... ;-)

WRONG!

pic of pups After five to six weeks, the dam is already starting to escape pestering, single-minded, rough, teething puppies, so by this time they are already weaned. Thus, another month is just a waste of precious time to be with YOUR chosen one. Those first several weeks after you bring your puppy home are the most precious and the first bonding period. Why wait to start bonding with your life-long friend?
